An all-in-one, real-time virtual studio! The tasks of a video switcher, video mixer, chromakeyer, and 3D graphics renderer can be performed by this single, fully integrated, turnkey system-all in real time! The Virtual Studio is perfect for TV shows, creating content on the fly and spicing up old formats. One person can operate all the necessary features. One of the best features of the Darim Virtual Studio system is that it can do it all in real time... With some other virtual studio solutions, all of these tasks-keying, video mixing, 3D rendering-are performed in post production and consume an enormous amount of time... With Darim's Virtual Studio system, once a shot is recorded, it is done; no further 3D graphics rendering or chromakey compositing is required. All you need is to connect cameras to the Virtual Studio set from your green box, select a backdrop you want to use, make any custom changes you want, and shoot live using Darim's trackless camera technology. You can even create and import more sets from 3D Max or Maya. The Virtual Studio has optimally designed and integrated all the complicated features needed for realizing 3D virtual sets in real time...making it possible to realize your imagination in only a moment.
With Darim Vision's Virtual Studio system, you will have the power to:
-reduce amount of equipment needed to run your show
-reduce number of people needed to run your studio
-reduce amount of time needed for compositing and rendering in post production
-maximize the use of any limited studio space
-eliminate the costs of storing and maintaining physical backdrops
What is Darim's Virtual Studio?
A virtual studio takes a video image of live actors shot against a green background or stage and composites them against a computer-generated 3D environment to create the illusion that the live actors are actually inside and interacting within this virtual world.
Darim's Virtual Studio inserts your actor into a 3D world then broadcasts it live! The Darim Virtual Studio is a complete turnkey real-time 3D solution. It contains a multi-camera input switcher, video/Audio mixer/delayer, chromakeyer, and 3D Graphic real-time renderer in one machine. All you need is cameras and a small green box. It is fully operable by just a single person!
Key features of the Virtual Studio 2000 are:
- Live broadcasting
- Single-person operation
- Multiple live video input (mostly 4 and 6) with switcher, TBC, and Frame Synchronizer
- Built-in advanced mult-channel high performance chroma keyer
- Real time 3D graphics rendering and built-in video mixer
- User-friendly authoring tools for Virtual Set Operation GUI
- Support for standard cameras and cameras with tracking heads
- 3D Studio Max and Maya export for real-time rendering
- 3D background elements (images, movies, animations) changed easily
- All-in-one turnkey solution using integrated Darim hardware and software technologies
The Virtual Studio is not only a simple virtual studio which can mix foreground and background graphics, but is a full real-time interactive 3D graphic machine. The Oakland Raiders' talk show uses real-time virtual camera switches with 3D video effects.
What are the benefits of trackless camera control?
More visual variation with less man-power. All camera motions and switching between shots are accomplished by manipulating the 3D virtual set itself rather than the real, physical cameras... Each physical camera is assigned to a specific shot (establishing shot, medium shot, two or three shot, close up or over the shoulder close-up) and then locked into place, without the need for a camera operator at each camera.
In order to realize the following set in a conventional studio, one camera with a tracking sensor (robotic machine) is necessary to create such a big movement. Even a robotic XY movement is not enough when it has a flying track. So the tracking sensor does not always mean all the track can be utilized.
With the Virtual Studio, movements like complicated pans, swoops, and tilts are possible because the camera is not actually moving-the 3D set is! The camera, on a tripod, "moves" along a predefined track assigned by 3D design or a typical joystick. There is no limitation to the movement of the virtual camera, so any view position and angle can be achieved, even ones that are impossible for real tracked cameras.
As you see the virtual camera is fixed on the actor, so the actor's image quality and size are not influenced by perspective changes as in traditional sets using tracked cameras.
The visual variety can even be increased using multiple cameras, as in the images below. The trackless technology and multiple cameras allow for an unlimited number of perspectives.
Different from other virtual studio systems, Darim's Virtual Studio supports not only two cameras but up to 6 cameras. For example, for a news show, you can use one camera for each of two newscasters, another for a two-person shot, and another to provide a video feed that appears behind them as a background video wall. You get an unlimited number of variations with only one person operating the unit.
Multiple cameras plus trackless technology provide limitless perspectives.
Can I display video creatively?
Yes. Play or feed video onto a virtual video wall or virtual monitors, opening up a new world for your viewers. Our advanced method does not require complicated rendering or an external mixer. It saves a lot of bandwidth and can show at least three live videos (SD, 2 HD) simultaneously with the actor, and more than three full D1 video files simultaneously on video walls or multiple virtual monitors.
Play a file simultaneous with the chromakeyed actor without using any extra video servers. The Virtual Studio not only saves storage space and production time and money, but also improves broadcast quality while using interactive 3D effects. It provides a new level of flexibility and capability.
What effects can I add?
Add 3D video texturing to your show! All video can be manipulated to twist, fold, revolve, burst into bits, etc.
Can I change sets instantly for even more visual variation?
Easy programmable authoring tools
(HotAction 1.6 - Script Based, HotAction 2.0: Script code Generator)
Advanced technologies have been developed to achieve sophisticated Virtual Studios, making seamless cooperation of complicated camera signal processing, real-time rendering with 3D graphics, and different rich medias such as Flash, videos in different formats, and html. Darim VS can be operated by one person acting as both cameraman and technical director.
Powerful and flexible HotAction software is provided for creating action GUI Menus for live shooting. Once a designer creates the 3D studio sets using 3D Studio Max or Maya, the next step is to make action libraries and GUI button designs for the live action/shootings. Simple and comprehensive Script Languages make programming flexible and easy without prior knowledge of software program. Several hours of initial study and self generated help is enough to program a live action GUI.
The Darim Virtual Studio can render exported files from 3D Max and Maya.
3D Max / MAYA Exporter
The Virtual Studio provides a 3D Data Exporter for 3D Max and MAYA programs. Powerful 3D studio max design tools are the most convenient way of designing studios. Unlimited virtual cameras are used for real-time render output.
Multiple virtual cameras and camera tracks can be designed in 3D Max, and all the surfaces can be used as video displays. The actor plan is defined on the proper location to make studio space for actor.
After exporting, the HotAction's edit mode is used for creating action buttons for live shooting. The live mode has buttons to create actions like camera switching or moves. Every button change Virtual Camera as like switcher button, and VTR button to control media files like video file play in Virtual Monitor for example. You can assign as many function as you want to use in live mode using the HotAction editing menu.
HotAction Software is an authoring tool to create virtual world operation using 3D Max/Maya objects and animation. The edit mode provides all the tools to make action items ( HotActions showing number 1 box, and necessary actions for live shooting are showing on the live mode menu by graphical icon "2" ( output screen shot) as shown on Live Window "3" in the above example screen.
Built-in multi-channel advanced color keyer
The Virtual Studio's advanced color keyer allows for three different keying methods. An intelligent auto-keying algorithm is employed for the easy-to-use, automatic mode and each key setting can be saved and loaded later for future use. Image brightness, color correction, alpha mask filtering and image cropping can all be adjusted through the VS System's keyer.
Embedded, Rich Multimedia Content
The VS system is capable of real-time playback of 2D multimedia content embedded in the background, foreground, or inside virtual monitor windows within the 3D virtual environment.
Built-in audio mixer/delay unit VS2000 has at least 6 analog inputs and outputs as well as digital. It contains all cross mixer and independent delayer.
- Up to 6 analog or 2 digital audio inputs/outputs
- Selectable delay per channel (up to 1000 ms)
- Multiple simultaneous outputs available
Virtual Sets from Darim
Many small broadcasters have no designer in the studio. Darim tried to solve this problem by providing broadcasters with the Virtual Studio 1000 system which does not have the HotAction programming component. VS1000 is a Playback Virtual Set with a 2D and 2.5D Virtual Studio system which doesn't need 3D set design. Either Darim or a 3rd Party can design set for the customers. But HotAction lite can edit all the possible parameters or textures so they can change sets with limited features but ease of use. Darim is providing several sets of Predesigned and 2D, 2.5D sets for users. Any time the designer is available, the HotAction component can be added to the VS1000, thereby upgrading it to the VS2000.
About 15 sets are coming together with VS1000 (user selectable and editable)
Darim Vision's VS series of systems are available in both standard and high-definition formats and are compatible with interlaced or progressive scan cameras... For the SD models, as many as 6 analog inputs (composite, S-Video, component) or 3 SDI inputs are supported, while the HD version supports as many as 4 SDI inputs.
And for more demanding studio setups that require tracking shots - shots where the camera physically follows an actor as he or she moves around on stage - a tracking version of the Virtual Studio is available, compatible with a wide range of PTZ tracking heads.
The Darim Virtual Studio 2000
VS2000 series offers a virtual set and live broadcasting, as well as customizable features such as VGA/DVI input . The 2000 series is ideal for studios requiring nuanced camera programming.
